The corn bunting has a robust build, a sizable head, a prominent conical bill, and lacks white coloring in its tail. Its underparts are extensively marked with delicate streaks, and in certain cases, these streaks combine to form a dark spot on its breast.
Habitat and Biology
The corn bunting inhabits open rolling grasslands, whether in natural steppe environments or agricultural fields. While it can tolerate a few scattered bushes, it generally avoids areas with dense bushy cover. Its diet primarily comprises plant seeds, though during the breeding season, it incorporates a significant amount of invertebrates, particularly small insects. The bird constructs its nest on the ground, concealed within vegetation, and typically lays clutches of four to six eggs. When singing, it often perches on wires or the tops of bushes.
ECO System Qatar
Rawda, which means garden, are pockets of green in the desert. They form in depressions in the desert surface. Fine soils blown by the wind are gradually deposited and compacted in the depressions, allowing plants to grow in it. These soils hold water far better than the rocky or sandy surroundings. Rawda are known as sweet soil areas, as they are so fertile. Many different plants and animals thrive in these hospitable conditions. People use them for farming and date plantations.
