Habitat and Biology
The Greater Hoopoe-Lark, is well adapted to desert environments, particularly sandy deserts, semi-desert areas with rocks, and dunes. Its unique bill is perfectly suited for foraging in the desert, allowing it to hunt insects and small lizards.Their nests are small cups constructed from small sticks, often situated on low branches of bushes or at the base of bushes. When moving, the bird exhibits a distinctive behavior of running with sudden stops in an upright posture, and it creeps away slowly. This species is typically found either alone or in pairs.
ECO System Qatar
Rocky desert ecosystem:The Qatar peninsula's interior consists of flat, rocky plains with hardy life forms surviving and offering hunting spaces for predators. Stony deserts with sand, pebbles, and limestone emerge at the center, featuring gravel plains and eroded limestone formations. Three stony desert types are noted: Hamada, tough exposed zones prone to surface fracturing due to extreme summer heat; Hofuf, plains with a light gravel layer; and Wadis, dry channels filling after heavy rains.
