This Medal of the Republic was issued by Egypt and awarded by president Gamal Abdel Nasser to Sheikh Ahmad bin Ali Al Thani in 1961. It was awarded in recognition of the good relations between Qatar and Egypt at the time. This type of medal is usually granted to heads of government, heir apparents, crown princes, and Egyptian citizens as well as foreigners who have provided valuable humanitarian services to the country. The medal is made out of gold, is oval in shape, and contains Islamic decorative motifs. The words "The Republic" in Arabic is engraved in the oval frame.
